I Didn't Realise
I was born and grew up in Sydney, Australia, to a British mom and South African dad. My whole life I’ve been defined as a ‘third culture kid’ (a 'TCK', someone who grew up in a culture different to that of their parents), but I didn’t start to feel the implications of that until I moved to the UK at 10 years old.
This risograph poster was part of my wider university project titled 'I Didn't Realise', a project exploring my identity as a TCK. It depicts a true story of the very first time I experienced real culture shock upon moving to the UK, and it was all to do with what I had brought as my break-time snack on my first day of school…
